MEISSEN COVERED BOWL - DECORATED BY LOWENFINCK CR. 1730
This covered sugar dish, decorated with fable animals, was purchased in Rome in 1950, from Lukacs-Donath, 108 Via Veneto, Rome.

The decoration is in the style of Von Lowenfinck, one of the most gifted painters at Meissen. His best work was between 1734 and 1736, which is undoubtedly the period of the decoration of this piece. The porcelain is of the period of 1730, judging by the green translucency and moons. Also the presence on the bottom of a small numeral 10, places it at this period according to Zimmerman, p345. Also see cup and saucer p. 155 having the same design of fable animals probably from the same service.
